DISCOVERING A NEW DIRECTION…

So it’s been a minute since my first few posts. After car-free day I got some great feed-back from people and was able to book my first few lessons. Its been a bit of a learning curve for me to get used to teaching, but so far it’s been a blast. Having the opportunity to help people better understand how their bike works and seeing them have those “ah-ha” moments has been really cool.

One thing that I didn’t expect as a result of putting up this site was the interest I’ve been getting from people wanting to know more about my recycled bike business. Seems people are pretty keen to learn more about the process of restoring old bikes and potentially turning that knowledge into a new source of income.

This is when I had an “ah-ha” moment of my own.

I’ve always felt that recycling and selling 2nd hand bikes was a super positive thing to do. You help the environment by keeping bikes out of landfills and getting them back on the road and you also have the opportunity to provide an affordable means of transportation to your community. Not to mention you have the freedom of working from home and setting your own schedule!(no wonder I’ve done it for so long) What didn’t occur to me until now however, is that I could teach people to do the very same thing all over the world!

To be honest, I’m really excited about this and I feel like this is the opportunity I’ve been waiting more. I think with both the economy and the environment in the shape they’re in, there couldn’t be a better time to teach people how to set up their own home-based business recycling, restoring and selling 2nd hand bikes. It just makes sense on so many levels.

Sooooo… with that said, it’s time for me to get to work. I’ve been doing this business for what feels like a long time now and I’ve acquired a ton of information over the years. It’ll take me some time to sort things out, but for now my plan is to share things like mechanical tips, selling strategies, examples of bikes I’ve restored and even some lifestyle perks just for good measure.

Please check back often or join me on facebook or twitter to stay in the loop as things develop! I’m super excited about this and look forward to great things in the future. Stay tuned….

TO EVERYONE I MET AT THE CAR FREE FESTIVAL

I wanted to make a short video for anyone I met or gave a flyer to during the car free festival. If I didn’t get a chance to talk to you directly, this video will give you a little more insight into what I’m doing with Full Circle Cycles (also check out my About page).

Basically I’m going to be running private 1-on-1 and group lessons for anyone interested in learning bike related skills. That could be anything from tuning up and maintaining your bike to navigating through the city and making sure your bike doesn’t get stolen. The focus being a relaxed learning environment and an emphasis on teaching the things you want to know.

Things are really only getting started so there is a lot to figure out, but I appreciate any feedback or ideas you have as to the kind of things you’d be interested in learning. I’ve been getting some good insight from friends and peers as to how I can best teach people and I’m eager to get this thing going. Please stay tuned as there will be some courses/lessons available very soon!

CAR FREE DAY!!!

Car Free Day is upon us again. This volunteer supported event has grown over the years and now encompasses 4 neighborhoods in Vancouver and an additional location in North Van. It’s a great opportunity to get out into your community and take the opportunity to have some fun in the streets! Last year I had a tent set up on Main St. and had the chance to sell some bikes, meet some great people and spend a day on my favorite street with out a car in sight.

This year I will be hitting the pavement and trying to get around to each of the locations to meet people and spread the word about Full Circle Cycles new direction in bicycle education and empowerment. Fingers crossed for the sun to come out, but either way it’ll be a great day!

WE’RE UP AND RUNNING!

Welcome!

It’s been a long time coming but the Full Circle Cycles website is finally online. It’ll likely go through a few changes in the near future, but believe me when I say that getting to this point is an accomplishment on it’s own. (Big thanks to talented photographer Jonathan Taggart for all his help!)

In case you were wondering, my name is Shawn and I run Full Circle Cycles. To find out what that entails, please check out my About page. In the near future this page will have a ton of information on bicycle education courses I will be offering in Vancouver.

Please stay tuned and thank you for stopping by!
